Had a 2 hour stopover in Pisa on our way to the Cinque Terre. Basically the idea was to rock up to the Leaning Tower, take a few obvious and stupid photos, then head back to the train. We actually really enjoyed what we saw of Pisa - not only was the tower a sight to be seen, but it was in a really nice Piazza, very green, surrounded by great old buildings and walls, the only thing detracting from the vibe was the number of annoying guys trying to see every tourist fake watches or sunglasses.

Went to get a bite to eat, and was surprised to find a beautiful little place, which acted as both a food outlet (really good pizza and panini, mostly), but also had an extensive selection of wines and liqueurs. The host was one of the friendliest Italians we've met, and that's saying something. It felt like a really Italian cafè, stumbling into this kind of place had made Italy one of the highlights of my trip and I've only been here less than a week!
