Toledo is a small town around 45 mins from Madrid, and Cam and I decided to take a day trip over to see some old-school Spain. It was pretty cool, a walled city which is known for it's tolerance (coexistence of christians, muslims and jews) and big swords. Every second shop sells huge swords, armour, huge roman warrior hats, etc.etc. And they play up the whole Don Quixote thing as well, there's a Don Quixote walking trail, plenty of figurines and stuff...

We arrived there, and 5 minutes after leaving the bus stop it started raining so we took shelter in a random marquee tent. Turned out to be a big seafood showcase exhibition, so we took full advantage as the rain and hail started to pour in very tropical fashion, and helped ourselves to some seafood paella and delicious squid. The rain briefly stopped, but drenched us as we were making our way around the small windy cobbled streets towards a bunch of impressive medieval buildings. Sun finally came out and this seemed to put us both in a philosophical state of mind, leading us to ponder ideas of destiny, parallel universes, souls/consciences, etc. as we wandered around old Roman racetrack ruins. The large alcazars, cathedrals, and other huge buildings from gothic to moorish styles were all very impressive and showed us more of the real history of Spain, as opposed to the large history-less city of Madrid.

Hola Tomas!
Hey Tom,

Just catching up on your blog (and Cam's)... in melbourne for a few days to graduate and get some 'crisp' air into my lungs. Saw big Al yesterday who told stories of the Inca trail and uni drinking in south america... About to see Chuck later today. It's good to be home, albeit briefly. You are still looking fabulously well. Have some tapas/beer/contemporary art for me.

Keep the crazy european stories coming,

love fiss
