San Cristóbal was really fun, I would have loved to stay there longer. It´s a colonial style town with a very chilled vibe but tons to do. Also a big live music scene, which I love as you probably are aware. The bands play styles ranging from reggae to ska to hip-hop to rock, and that´s just in one song! I remember hearing a 10 minute extended version of Marley´s "Stir It Up" with all those styles. All the venues compete vigourously for tourists´ patronage, and this means free cocktails upon entry, promises of "lots of girls", etc.etc.
A great excursion that we did from San Cristóbal was a tour to a nearby canyon called ´Cañon del Sumidero´, where we had a great little speedboat ride for about 2 hours up and down the river canyon. Great scenery and animals - everything from decent sized crocs to spider monkeys to turkey vultures. Also the guide pointed out plenty of interesting stuff, such as a 1km drop from the top of a precipice to the river, and weird pink rocks.
Other than the canyon trip, we basically watched bands, shopped a little bit (for rude clothes to wear to Lord´s Cricket Ground in London), ate and drank very well, and had a great time in one of Mexico´s best little cities.
