Snorkelled through 2 ´cenotes´ - underground caves filled with water, fish, stalactites and other stuff. Apparently this area has the biggest underwater cave system in the world, something to do with an earthquake thousands of years ago. It was really cool, and you could get lost really really easily so needed a guide, who drove us to the cenote in a car with no body. See pic. Also did some random snake handling.
Next activity was to see our first Mayan ruins in a very serene setting with tons of green shrubbery that we wouldn´t call forest or jungle. There´s a big pyramid building thing called Nohuch-Mul, with a great view from the top. We did some excellent avoidance of large tourist groups, which would prove to be a handy skill over the forthcoming days of ruin viewing.
We were told by a drunk Mexican that he owned a pet kangaroo. That night we stayed in a random guy´s house with balsa wood walls put up within normal rooms. Mexico is bloody Fun!
