On my way to Punta del Este (Uruguay), I had a brief stopover in a little ex-smuggling town of Colonia. This town was small, quaint, and very pretty. Old cobbled streets, river views, and ruins from the days when the Brazilians built the city to smuggle goods to and from Argentina. The river ain't exactly the prettiest in the world though. It's 100% poo brown. And it's not a small river either - kilometers wide, stretching from Argentina to Uruguay all the way out to the Atlantic Ocean. Pretty disgusting really, I wouldn't want to swim in it.
So I was only in Colonia for a few hours, then had to get on another bus. Would have liked a little bit more time - only got a chance to walk briefly around the town and eat in a cute little cafe - but you can't win them all.
