Final day with my pisco loving cousins in Santiago included watching the final of the Chilean national soccer league at a local pub, horrendously named "Pub Licity"! When Universidad Católica beat Universidad de Chile 1-0, the pub was united in joy. We almost went to the match itself, but missed out on tickets. Chilean soccer is in a bit of a lull at the moment, but the match was exciting and the fans as crazy as I've ever seen.
After a fun-filled 10 hour bus trip from Santiago, I arrived in Villarrica, a small town in the famous Lakes Region in the south of Chile. This town, along with nearby Pucón (much more vibrant and touristy) sits on Lago Villarrica, which sits at the base of a seriously active smouldering volcano. So active, in fact, that an international team of volcanologists recently reported increased seismic activity which could potentially lead to an explosion in the near future
Staying with my grandparents for a few days, and it has been entertaining at times, a little slow at times, and a lot of food all the time. My slightly-blind grandpa continues to endanger lives by driving, he even had trouble finding the keyhole of one of his cars today. He and I have been having many discussions ending in basically "agree to disagree" situations, with topics ranging from organised religion, to the increasing use of computers and technology, to the death penalty. BBQ with lots of extended family today, pretty standard really, nothing exciting to report. Over & Out.

Your grandparents
Hello Tom - I showed Emma your travel blog and the first thing she commented was your short hair. Lawson was in the office yesterday (21 Dec) just in time for my birthday cake. He said you'll be staying with him in London.
I love your story about your grandpa, sounds familiar - wished you had posted some photos - Merry Christmas and Happy & Safe New Year - Rusni
