So its been a while since my first post and having just returned from Belgium it seems about time that I write another quick update about what I've been up to for the past month.

So on the 25-27 September weekend, Ann, Yu, Euge and I jetted off to Brussels the capital of Belgium! Our flight was at 7:30 which pretty much meant we had to catch the shuttle from T-Centralen at 4:30am ><".

This marked the start of what will be many Ryanair journeys. Our first day in Brussels was characterised by some pretty temperamental weather. It would rain then the sun would come out then it would rain! But overall to sum up my impression of Brussels I would definately say it is a city of contrast. On the one hand you see some of the most beautiful buildings and parks located near the city centre but on the other hand some of the side streets can be quite run down.

Some of the places we visited in Brussels were

-- Grand Place - (Grote Markt) which is the central square in Brussels. This place was amazing and a must visit location if you are ever in  Brussels. We visited during the day and at night and the place looks quite different coz they light up the buildings at night
- Museum Park - an enormous park which was beautiful. There are three museums inside the park and the Army Museum has free entrance.
- Place Louise (Louiza Plein) A nice shopping street

Things you must try in Brussels
- chocolate - need i say more? We found that a lot of the chocolate shops in Brugge gave you free samples. In general buying chocolate at the supermarket is much cheaper than buying in the tourist areas.
- French Fries - so French Fries aka Frikes originated from Belgium not France. There is usually a long list of sauces to choose from.
 - Waffles!!! the best ones are usually the ones with just sugar on top or inside. The ones with a mountain of toppings are geared more towards tourists.
- On the Sunday night after our visit to Brugge we were planning on buying food from the supermarket to make dinner at the hostel. But alas the supermarket was closed. But in the end this turned out to be for the good coz we ended up trying one of the beer restaurants/cafes recommended in the guide book. The food was delicious!!!! So if you are ever in Brussels make sure to try out the restaurant Fin De Siecle and just ask the waiters there what they recommend, they will point you in the right direction. We had so much food that it could hardly fit onto the table. During the dinner me, euge and Ann or managed to drop our knife off the table at some stage. On the way back to the hostel we also managed to miss the subway because we didn't know how to open the subway door.

On the Sunday we took a train down to Brugge which takes approx 1.5 hours. This was definately worth it. Brugge is often regarded as the Venice of the North. The city has a lot of historical buildings and churches and just walking around the place and exploring makes for a good day trip. We walked through the sunday flea market which was filled with an assortment of random items from world war 2 medals, to old furniture, to stamps, cds, bags you name it, it was probably there. I would definately recommend visiting Brugge if you are ever in Belgium as it is   super pretty city!

So that pretty much sums up my travels in Belgium. It was an awesome trip with some beautiful places and great good =D.
