We arrived at a hot and dusty Vang Vieng. Definetly a backpacker haunt. The usual bars showing movies, Family Guy and yes Friends!! So we had a shower, found a bar and sat and watched Friends whilst having a cold large Beer Laos. After that long journey we all felt a little wasted after our beer and hungry so it was off to another place for food. One with no TV but was playing the obligatory Bob Marley. Jo didn't feel to good so she headed back to the GH but the reat of us headed out to another bar for some Vodka buckets!! very nice. We had a few there and then headed over to the Bucket Bar on the island where I think pretty much all the young backpackers were. It was loud and noisy. We headed back to the GH about 12 feeling a little drunk!!
We caught the bus on Saturday to the capital, Vientiane, in the afternoon but before hand we had one important thing to do before leaving ....TUBING. Going down the river on a tractor inner tube for about 4kms. We had life jackets..before anyone got worried!! It was lovely gently going down the river, fantastic views of mountain sides covered in forest/jungle. We even heard a couple of gibbons singing....FANTASTIC ...better than paying 100 GBP and getting wet and muddy doing the gibbon experience.
Then lunch and another bus ride...3.5 hours but again was a little longer! This time no proper aircon, no DVD etc. We hit the capital sw2eaty and a little grumpy. Off to find a GH. Jo and Teresa had found one in Lonely planet near the river with a pool!! All booked so we found another one which lookd nice and $20 a room. So we thought cool! Not cool. Dirty bathrooms and sheets!!. We found a really nice french restaurant to eat at which helped. Trouble was we talked about horror films like Hostel so the girls were a bit on edge when we got back to the GH. It was so quiet I think we were the only people staying there. It waqs only one night though.
