So we returned to port after 4 days of surveying a proposed marine protected area off the coast of Savannah, Georgia. We came into the port that was the home of the boat, so the crew got to go home and see their families, Jere and I were jelous. But Amanda showed the four of us a good time again! She really did play host well. We saw all the best brew pubs and late night hot spots. Jere peer pressured me into buying a pair of sandals. Being from Oregon, I felt very funny wearing sandals, not because they are strange or anything, I just never wear them unless I'm going to the beach or showering in a nasty place.
anyway, we made some repairs to our equipment, and got caught up on our internet stuff like e-mails home. I actually had enought time to bid on a dry suit on e-bay, I'm already spending the money that I was making and I handn't even stepped off the boat.
anyway, after three days in Wilmington we went out to sea grudglingly for the last 6 days of the survey. We were also a little bored becasue these marine protected areas that were suggested were turning out to be nothing but flat, muddy, bottom. and so we knew that what we were doing was telling NOAA that these areas were useless. But it doesn't matter, they still want to see all the data, so we did it all. The last six days were getting pretty tense, everyone could smell home and knew that it was close so some of the courtesies that come with living on a 70' boat with 9 people go out the window. anyway, look at the pics.
