So I can still remember sitting in my sister's house before I left for South America almost 2 years ago, sending out almost this exact same email...kinda weird. Anyways, tomorrow evening I leave for my new job with ACTED. I fly first to Paris to swing by headquarters and take care of some last minute preparations, then to Istanbul, Turkey to catch the once-a-week flight into Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The past week I've been frantically attempting to tie up all loose ends here in the US (thanks to Diane, Kevin, Korin and Joe in Sacto - wouldn't have made it w/o you!) and get everything ready for my trip. The only real information I've been able to get from current employees in Tajikistan is that it is impossible to get chocolate there, but my 60-meter climbing rope ultimately won out suitcase space over a stash of Ghiradelli - I figure I'll just have to drink more to compensate for the lack of sweets.
Anyways, I definitely feel ready to leave...my time here in the US did not finish up exactly as I would have liked, but fortunately we always have the future and nothing is written in stone. The next chapter of my life is about to begin and I hope you'll all bumble along with me thru it.
