After showering we met Dietmar & Ingrid who volunteered to drive us to the train station in Szombathely, Hungary on Dietmar's day off from work. The border between Austria & Hungary is open now, so there are no checkpoints or guards checking passports, like they had in the past. It was about a 30 minute drive, and we had some difficulty finding the train station due to the language barrier. Hungary does not yet accept the Euro, so we had to convert money into Forints.
The town we stayed at, Keszthely, is on the west coast of Lake Balaton. We took a quick hike down to the lakefront in the evening, and went to a wine restaurant/museum to share a bottle of Tokaji, a very sweet Hungarian dessert wine, recommended by Ingrid. The town was mostly dead at around 9pm, so we called it an early night and got ready for a morning train to Budapest tomorrow.
