Our 9 hour trainride was over 30 minutes late getting into Nice, and Eliz from Hotel Le Lido was kind enough to stay late to check us in after hours. Marty almost made us even later by getting off the train in Antibes (thinking it was Nice), but Sue saved the day.
The Hotel le Lido is just across the street from the very expensive and famous Hotel Negresco, which is right on the Promenade de Anglais. Our room was nice and the location was great; walking distance to a store, a pastry shop, and the waterfront. We visited the Old Town flower market and bought some olives and dijon mustard, and tried the local bread called 'Socca'. We climbed the steps to the beautiful lookout and castle ruins up on the hill. Sue and I watched the sunset and headed to Johnny's Wine Bar for Blues music and sangria.
We took a daytrip to Cannes on the slow bus (1 Euro) and walked thru the Old City, watched old guys play bocci ball, and visited the site of the famous film festival. More thumbnails ...
