An early rise got us the 8:00 bus to San Jose. Being the organised folk we are now, we had oor sandwiches all made up for the 4.5 hour journey to Costa Rica`s capital. Over a few mountain ranges, the journey was fine and we got to San Jose`s Coca Cola Terminal just at 12. Dodgy place this and we had been warned to find a taxi quick, which we did and passed by the junkies alley on the way out to the Caribe Terminal in the north of the city. Lucky we got the driver to turn on the meter (doesn`t always happen!) and it cost us 800 colones (80p), rather than the 3000 colones some bright spark offered us as we got off the first bus!
We got straight on a bus to Puerto Limon on the Caribbean coast, and again climbed out of San Jose and into cloud forested mountains where it was absolutely heaving it down. A tunnel cut through the mountains takes an hour off the journey and we arrived in Limon about 2.30pm. No messing about, it`s a crap place, just a massive docks basically, but we stopped in Hotel Miami for a night, got a Chinese and watched the Oscars on tv - exciting huh!!!
