belgrade is hilarious. and beer fest continues to be brilliant. i rocked up at the festival last night, having been promised a serbian beatles cover band, only to be confronted with some sort of serbian death metal cover band. not quite the same. wandered around for a bit, then came the appalling serbian red hot chili peppers cover band. crowd went nuts. i found a stand that sold beer made out of hemp. that was pretty cool. the beatles cover band finally showed up a few hours later, and were surprisingly good actually.

and i have found my people! serbians CANNOT DANCE. at all. 100% appalling. am going to have to do a bit of research, see if there is not some eastern european blood floating around in the gene pool - that would explain ALOT.

i bailed on the beerfest after the beatles cover, and headed back to the hostel. i had to leave fairly early, because i was flying solo - the only other person in the hostel was an 80 year old latvian man. so i got home about midnight, only to discover that my key wouldn't work and i was locked out. so i bashed on the door til i woke the 80 year old latvian man, and he tried to let me in. only he couldnt figure it out either, which meant he was locked in and i was locked out, and neither of us were pleased about the situation. i finally got in, i dont know how, the key just suddenly started working after a 1/2 hour or so of beating on the door.

but when i opened the door, a bat flew at my head, which freaked me right out. yes, a bat. in the hostel. revolting. then i felt sorry for the bat, so i tried to catch it to put it out the window. i spent a happy 5 minutes chasing the bat around the room before my brain piped up with "um, thats a eastern european bat... if it doesnt turn you into a vampire, it will at the very least give you rabies. stop trying to catch it." that seemed sensible advice, so i went to bed, and the bat was gone in the morning, so that was nice.

i am off to sarajevo tomorrow. took me ages to find the right place to buy the bus ticket - they are still not keen on each other apparently. so much so that the bus arrives in a majority serbian suburb outside of sarajevo, and i then have to find my way into the bosnian bit. annoying. anyway, it'll be an adventure!
