Hi Hi !!!
Already the end of the 1st camp that I had to lead with Edwaaaaaaaardo Mate ! we can say that everything worked out pretty well and that we NEED TO REST :)
We welcomed in during this camp 9 short term volunteers : Irina and Dana from Latvia, Hollie and Josse from England, Varpu from Finland, Magalie, Olivia and Clémentine from France and Tunji from Belgium.
the camp takes place in the town of Garður (on the Reykjanes Peninsula, South of Reykjavik). We were there to prepare the 100th Birthday celebration. Gardening, coastline cleaning, painting, fighting against "Luppinas" were our main activities !
The accommodation was king of original : all of us on mattresses on the floor in the same room. Good fun ! Showers at the sport center and only 2 bathrooms (toilets) for 16! We needed to be really well organized in the morning to be on time at work.
The local community was extremely friendly with us. Saerùn, our host here was the link between the different services and organized for us trips around the place. We have been welcomed for free drinks and waffles at the lighthouse and the teenagers and youngsters of the town where really happy to share experiences with us. Nice way to exchange about our cultures !
We even went for a bath in the sea, sunbath at the beach ! Unexpectable in Iceland ! But that was nice. We ended up in a kitchy party with Dj Paul Oscar ??? He seems to be really famous here but... Oh!!! yeah let's say it, it's rubbish... ahahah don't tell him !
Milosz and Juste, came over few times to visit us, that was really good to see them again...
In a few words, Garður was a sweet camp with nice people, the work was pretty tough and start at 8 is really hard for volunteers like us... But thanks to all of us, you and them...
