Well, well, well ...
Already a week spent here in Iceland and already loads of stuff to say. We arrived on Monday evening and get to know the 1st part of our team work. All those guys seems pretty nice and interesting.
One more time a new room to share. We are 6 per rooms and I had to introduce myself as a snorer for the 1st night ;). Let's say that it was because of the jet lag... Pfffff
We 1st started by a day off and had the chance to visit Reykjavik. My 1st feeling was not so nice about the city. Brand new buildings, construction spots on the coast line...
But once you get to discover the "down town" you feel the atmosphere which is floating around and get to enjoyed it a lot.
It's a really small city with typical houses, little shops and heaps of coffees and clubs.
Fortunately Euros with really strong right now and the Icelandic currency pretty low... It makes the shopping a bit cheaper. Especially for a volunteer ;)
We start our intensive training course. 8 hours a day... It's like being back at Uni and trust me it's hard to get concentrated for a long while like this. Environmental issues, global warming, leadership, management, Icelandic are our main topics...
I'm enjoying it a lot !
Every night we try to present our culture while sharing typical diners : French evening, Italian evening... That is a really good way to discover ourselves.
We are a group of 18 persons coming from countries as : Portugal, France, Italy, Spain, UK, Lithuania, Switzerland, Colombia, USA, Germans are missing;)
I think that we all start to realize what will be our volunteering experience here in Iceland. It will be further more than any expectations I could have... I think that we have the chance to live an experience that will affect our lifestyle. Taking consciousness of environmental issues and global problems. Our generation will be the key of how good or wrong our planet will goes, it's why we have to act right now... If it's not already late ?!
The Icelanders seems to be hard party goers... During Fridays and Saturdays nights the city changes herself to a huge party places ! Bars get clubs ! Live bands are everywhere... 1 Icelander on 4 is playing in a Band !!! Well dressed blondie girls are fully drunk in the streets and parties are running till late, really late ! Sun sets around 11.30 and rise around 4.00 which means that there is no "real" darkness. It's a really strange feeling and you don't feel tired :)
