Halfway up the coast, we stopped for a short break in my old hometown of Mystic, Connecticut. It was an unsually warm and sunny fall day, with temperatures in the upper 80's. Having just arrived from Thailand, we felt right at home. Nuch and I decided to have seafood lunches at a place I knew by the river next to the drawbridge. However, since it wasn't scheduled to open for another half-hour, we took the opportunity to stroll down by the waterfront for pictures.

The view from the old drawbridge provided one of the best vantage points of the upper Mystic River to the Seaport Museum about 3/4 of a mile away. We stopped midway across on the grated, yellow walkway to watch the bussle of life around us. A single horn blast from a local motor yacht signaled its request for the bridgemaster to raise the span. Within minutes, the traffic had stopped and the bridge slowly angled up to free the passage. Tourists and locals alike congregated on both sides to watch and wave to the passing boat. Once through, the bridge came back to level and people went on with their business. All told, about 15 minutes.

After lunch, Nuch and I took another quick walk through town towards Mystic Pizza of movie fame. Althought not Julia Roberts, a good-natured lady came out and offered to let us hold her still warm box of pizza while she took our picture on the sidewalk out front. Quite the Kodak moment. After a few more shots of the church on the hill overlooking town, we meandered through the curio shops before heading back to the car. Our last shots of the lighthouse were taken as we drove past the Seaport Museum on the way back to I-95 north. It felt good to be back home.
