We came to rest, see the arch, and have some real Italian food in the country's largest Little Italy.
We did it all in that order!
It is unusually hot here - high 90's and all 3 air conditioners in the motor home have to run full time to keep it livable for us and the dogs.
The arch is something you just have to see in person to appreciate. It is beautiful in the pictues, but to see it up close and realize what was required to build it.....and what it stands for.... is and entirely different thing.
It is actually a monuement to the Thomas Jefferson/Louis and Clarke era or the great western expansion of the United States
The arch was actually the winning design out of 172 architectural entries into a contest for the best national monuement to TJ in 1947. Construction of the arch began in 1962 and was completed in late 1965. It was an engineering feat in its day and exemplifies the pioneer spirit of the true American pioneers......
Anyway if you go -
DO take the ride up to the top in the tram (unless you are claustrophobic- it feels like you are in a space capsule)
DO watch the movie about the construction of the arch.
DO eat lunch before you go there cause the food is basically non exixtent.
DON'T try to take pics on the ride up inside the capsule....they won't come out!
