The drive to Regina entailed one small stop to visit these old wooden 1920 era grain elevators in a town called Inglis. A special non profit has restored them and also made a type of museum of the old elevator operation along the old train tracks (prior to the trucking industry taking over alot of the transportation.) It was really interesting see the pics!
Regina was a good size town surrounded by vast wheat fields....and barley fields...and more wheat fields.....very flat and lots of huge expensive farm equipment on the roads everywhere.
Moose Jaw is a small town 40 miles away and they are famous for the legendary tunnels. Also known as "Little Chicago" Al Capone had a huge bootleg operation during the 1920's here and we took a tour of the underground tunnels in the city where he had his whiskey smuggling operation....the tunnels were also supposedly used to smuggle Chinese immigrants from the US to Canada during the period just after
Anyway the tour was neat - the guides actually act out the parts of the Capone gang and the tour group is treated like a group of bootleggers and led thru the tunnel system on a real theatrical tour.
Gilles celebrated his birthday while we were here with a German Choclate cake and a visit to the casino - roulette wheel won by the way!
Overall the visit was good but sad in that Alan and Betty headed back to the states after this stop to get back to PC Beach. Safe Travels to them.
Next -ON TO ALBERTA!
