The 155 mile drive from Kenora to Grand Beach Provincial Park on Lake Winnepeg was more interesting and time consuming than we expected - but well worth it....the scenery was great.  Lots of farmland (canola and mustard fields) and wildlife, narrow roads old churches etc.
The park is nice and had some great kite boarding weather (if you happen to be a penguin-brrr - even the hardcore Canadians had on full wet suits) but the weather was cold, stormy and windy the whole 3 days.....we finally left the park on Friday to head to the city of Winnepeg for some modern comforts!

The park was a very historical place - in the 1930's thousands came here in the summer by train to stay at the huge lodge and party at the dance pavillion (sorry it is no longer there and I don't have copies of the old pictures of it from the brochure)  which looked like an airplane hanger it was so huge....very interesting history here.

We visited the "town" of Marais outside the park...there was 1 convenient store and 1 restaurant and a bakery...we showed up at the bakery at 8:30 for breakfast and evidently that was too early-  the cinnimon rolls were not done yet!

All in all it was good - we finally had a day of sunshine on Thursday before we left.
