After driving about 320 miles west of Thunder Bay on Monday, we "ditched in" for a one nite stay at an RV Park here before continuing on to Winnepeg, Manitoba area.
This place turned out to be a pleasent surprise- the campground is on a lake called Longbow Lake and there are alot of seasonal residents in the RV park. Mostly fisher people. One of our neighbors was visiting and told us that Longbow lake connects to a bigger lake called Lake of the Woods close to the camp.
Since Longbow is about 8 feet higher than Lake of the woods, the locals have installed a type of conveyor to ferry the boats from the small lake to the big lake where the fishing (for walleye) is better.
Once we heard this we HAD to go see it for ourselves. I had a doubt about the existence of this contraption at all.....but see the pics!!
We drove into the town (Kenora 16,000 people) afterwards and it is beautiful and full of seaplanes at the marina (for chartering fishermen to the northern outback fishing spots). The downtown area is very quaint - we could stay here awhile, but Lake Winnepeg is waiting!
