This is way delayed, but I have been so busy these last few weeks, when I do have some time to update I am too tired too. But here is an update of my last weekend/last week in Arica.

Friday, Nov 23, I had my last classes at school, I wasn't feeling particularly happy or sad, I think maybe I didn't realize it was over yet. Then, just as I was starting to get sentimental, my last class was terrible and I didn't feel so bad. Also, that day we just watched thanksgiving movies/cartoons, which the 8th graders complained about, but then cracked up at...

After school I went and slept a bit because that night was my despedida, goodbye party! Eventually Mario and Caroll came over and we cleaned and went to get food for the party. Then most people I know here came over, it was practically the same group as Thanksgiving and movie night, but with some others. Mario made the same bbq he did for Sept. 18, we just hung out and talked and it was a fun time. Also Caroll made bergonia, which is strawberry simple syrup and red wine and it was good (mostly writing that here so I remember how to make it). Anyways, it was a fun night and lasted until about 6am the next day as usual. Most of my american friends left around 4, but then Caroll, Mario, Irene, and Eliu stayed and talked..I mostly zoned out and tried not to fall asleep.

Saturday I slept in a lot and I don't think did much, then that night I went to Andra's apt. which is gorgeous and we just hung out there (Jennifer, Diego, his friend, Bria, Andra and I) until later when some of them went to a club, but I just went home.
Sunday was a relax and try not to sleep all day kind of day. I mostly just packed and made some final trip plans.

Monday was my last day having to go to the school even though I didn't have to teach. I did, however have to get up in front of the whole school at the Monday morning act and say a thank you speech off the top of my head...I hate when they make you do that. Anyways, I did that and then 8A had a "surprise" goodbye for me, which was essentially the same as the 6th grade one, junk food at 8am. It was nice tho and they actually seemed sad I was leaving.
That afternoon at 1 Caroll, Bria and I went to Tacna, 1. just to go one last time and 2. to try to fix some visa problems. It was a nice trip, we just got on the bus, went and had some juice, man it is so good, went to have some ceviche and picarrones and then walked around shopping. Caroll bought crazy red heels, I got some earrings and Bria some manjar stuffed goodies. Then we rode the bus back, had some monumental visa problems, with the bus driver and others yelling at us, it was all very stressful and still not figured out, but we got through and just relaxed that night.

Let's see, Tuesday I packed a ton, cleaned the house and went to aerobox for the last time :( Luckily I videotaped a class (with their permission) so I can still do it at home in the US :) Then Loreto came to pick me up so we could hang out..but we had some problems with her car. Apparently her battery died outside my house, so we sat their waiting for Eliu to come help us, but then the neighbors came out and starting doing things with cars, so we asked them. It got fixed right as Eliu pulled up hah. So then we left to go to a hotel Loreto needed to go to really quick, but the battery died again on the way there as soon as we exited my residential area. Luckily she was able to pull off the road and we called Eliu again to come help. Apparently it is her alternator so her battery can't charge, so they switched batteries for now and we were on our way.

We went to the Azapa hotel to make plans for a scavenger hunt she was running the next day, then we went to the centro to get some materials for it, and we also bought some sweets at the bakery that I hadn't tried before. So we went to her apt. and she made melon juice, I tried the sweets, chilinitos, which is cookies with manjar wrapped in merengue, something liek flan and pan de huevos which was like sweet bread with cream. She also made me something like tuna salad that is typical to was all very good. We sat around talking and then eventually I found a taxi home.

Wed was my last whole day in Arica and I spent it finishing all my packing (seriously, how did I end up with so much stuff) and then I went to the "surprise" goodbye put on by the teachers. Here is the funny part about that..Pilar is the one who had to collect the money and put it on..funny coincidence. So it was nice all the teachers (even Pilar) stayed after to sit and talk and have cake with me. They gave me a school track suit and wished me was kinda awkward but a nice sentiment. Also, my director is just so creepy and weird and I am glad that I will not have to see him again.
After that Caroll and I went shopping in the centro for xmas decorations for the classroom and then went to eat at Cafe del Mar again. It was nice and kinda sad cause it was our last night together, we walked around and talked and tried not to be sad. Then she dropped me off to conversation club..where she ran out of gas..Eliu was there to go to class and he went and got her some..poor guy..So we said bye, and even if it's only until later this month it was hard, because it won't be the same when I go back.

Anyways, I went to convo club, it was nice and they were happy I came one last time, we had a good time and I know I will miss going to that. After that I went next door to watch Loreto play in a basketball game, which was mildly entertaining and very funny. Then I left that to go to Arica restobar where andra was having a goodbye. Megan, Andra, Mauricio, Kate, Sonia and I were the ones I knew there and it was fun, but I left early cause I was getting sad and still had to get up early the next day.

So as of Thursday I have been out of Arica, which I will get into in the next post...
