The next day we awoke to a cloudy sky – we had a quick breakfast and a freezing cold shower and decided to take a walk over to monkey bay – just a 10 minute walk from the campsite, we climbed some steps and as we reached the top we looked down onto a deserted cove, we headed down and explored the caves and rocks around, my dad even tried a spot of rock climbing – he didn't get very far! This is one of the great things about new Zealand that you can always find somewhere where you are the only ones there and it feels as though no one else has discovered it yet – with the same number of people as in Bristol in the whole of the south island it makes things seem very empty. We played around on the beach for a while until it was a reasonable hour to head off to the vineyards for some wine tasting. M & M had decided on Cloudy Bay as they know this one from home. We pulled up at a beautiful building and went through into the tasting room where we chose which tasting plan we wanted to follow – the standard, special or exquisite – we obviously went with exquisite – we were poured our first glasses and told a little about the wine and then we went and sat outside in the lovely garden and ate some delicious cheese, this is where we stayed supping away at around 8 different delicious wines – nothing really beat the black estate wines though so we only bought one – a tasty wine that was supposed to compliment cheese perfectly.
