(should be 26th march)
Another early morning Followed as we made our way to lake tekapo stopping at a couple of beautiful lakes on route which had back drops of mount cook and other mountains lining the horizon.
We pulled up at lake tekapo around lunch time again and couldn't believe how beautiful it was, a tiny quiet place with a population of around 500 people. Our hostel looked out over the lake, the sun was shining and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. We immediately walked to the shops and bought some cider to enjoy in the sunshine. We had some lunch and then headed out for a walk along the lake side, we were shocked on route to find a flying fox which amused us for half an hour or so as we ran up and down trying to push each other as hard as we could! We carried on walking and after an hour or so came to the church of the good shepherd, a tiny cobble stone church which was perched on the waters edge and was probably only big enough for maybe 20 people inside. By the time we'd walked back to our hostel then sun was beginning to set so we grabbed the cider and headed down to the water with roxy and watched as the sun went down behind the mountains one side and the moon rose from the mountains on the other. It was beautiful but soon got really cold and so we finished off our drinks back at the hostel. We went outside at one point and in the light of the street lamp saw a little creature running across the road, it was definitely a kiwi and so off we ran trying to catch up with it, we ran through the bushes that lined the hostel garden - tai cut his feet - and found ourselves in front of a scared little hedgehog!
Still no kiwi sighting unfortunately but we have been close a couple of times - kind of!
