Ola everyone. Well we arrived safe and sound after our 24 hours worth of travelling, and other than the jetlag and the ridiculous amount we paid the "nice man" at the airport to take us to the hostel, Santiago seems like a nice place.

Our hostel is really nice and clean (thankfully) as you can see from the pictures. We stayed in last night and feasted on "traditional" Chilean pizza and beers with the Brazillians, Mexicans, Chileans and another Aussie here studying before we crashed and slept the night through- well John woke up at 3, but i slept right through.

After we woke, we went for a walk through what we can only assume was the CBD not realising that nothing opens until at least 9.30 here!! However John did manage to find a bakery so he could have something sweet. We then found a very intersting coffee bar that was full of business men dressed in expensive suits, being served their morning caffeine hit from scantilly dressed "chicas"

We were suprised by two things, a) the LACK of mcdonalds and b) the abundance of chemists!! seriously, there is a pharmacy at least every 50 meters!!

on a side note, mum you would LOVE this place. Yes it is dirty, but every morning there are hundreds of people out mopping and sweeping the streets!! Heaven

we then went to Santa Lucia which is this big hill in the heart of the city. And it is huge. there were a lot of stairs and I couldn't even make it to the top because I got vertigo.

Our lack of spanish not proving to be too much of a problem. We are becoming quite good at hand gestures. The guys last night taught us all we need to know, "dos cervezas por favor" so other than that, what else do we need?!!

The city is right at the foot of the Andes and so we are hoping to make the most of it and book ourselves in for a skiing trip tomorrow.

hope all is well in oz.

Hello There
It would appear that you vegemites are enjoying your trip. Sound like it is asll fund.

When I was there in 1994 my Boss drank the water and nearly blew his arse away over a period of 3 weeks. Morale of the story - only drink bottled water. If my memory serves me well it was 'sin gas' for no gas and 'con gas' for soda water.

Just got an email from Benny C regarding the World Cup. Needless to say, I know what his travel agenda will be in the near future.

You guy take care. The people over there were lovely. (They have the best brunettes in the world.)

Hey GUys,
So good to hear from you both & to know that things are working out OK.
I think it's a rite of passage to get ripped off by a taxi driver when you travel overseas so don't worry too much about that!!
Love the pics, glad you have found out how to order beer. Tahl that's so important right??
Hostel looks good. It's also good that there are cleaners doing the streets, Mum can rest easy now...!
Love you both so much.

Hello from Mumsie
Hi Tahlie and John

Glad to hear from you this morning Tahlie, albiet that it was 0530!!!!!!!!! It was Saturday morning, but hell what the heck.

Fancy seeing snow. Wonderful.

Ellie Gilmore came in and I got her some work, but she had to go to Kal in a hurry, becasue her Grandad is very sick.

I am well and I have been having lots of laughs evertime that I find one of your little stick it notes. The one under the chopping board made me laugh. I have put them on the fridge, and so everytime I walk past I laugh.

I just want you to know that the house is clean now, so you can come home anytime that you wish now!!

Missing you both heaps, but hoping that you have the time of your life. Wish that I was there too!

Now that I have worked out the way to use this site, I will write often.

Love you heaps

Granny Jo Jo
