Where I stayed
Our hostel is really nice and clean (thankfully) as you can see from the pictures. We stayed in last night and feasted on "traditional" Chilean pizza and beers with the Brazillians, Mexicans, Chileans and another Aussie here studying before we crashed and slept the night through- well John woke up at 3, but i slept right through.
After we woke, we went for a walk through what we can only assume was the CBD not realising that nothing opens until at least 9.30 here!! However John did manage to find a bakery so he could have something sweet. We then found a very intersting coffee bar that was full of business men dressed in expensive suits, being served their morning caffeine hit from scantilly dressed "chicas"
We were suprised by two things, a) the LACK of mcdonalds and b) the abundance of chemists!
on a side note, mum you would LOVE this place. Yes it is dirty, but every morning there are hundreds of people out mopping and sweeping the streets!! Heaven
we then went to Santa Lucia which is this big hill in the heart of the city. And it is huge. there were a lot of stairs and I couldn't even make it to the top because I got vertigo.
Our lack of spanish not proving to be too much of a problem. We are becoming quite good at hand gestures. The guys last night taught us all we need to know, "dos cervezas por favor" so other than that, what else do we need?!!
The city is right at the foot of the Andes and so we are hoping to make the most of it and book ourselves in for a skiing trip tomorrow.
hope all is well in oz.
