From Belauring we sailed to the island of Lembata.

Pulau Lembata (the island of Lembata), formerly known as Pulau Lomblen, is the largest island of the Solor Archipelago, in the Lesser Sunda Islands, Indonesia. It forms part of the province of Nusa Tenggara Timur. The length of the island is about 80 km from the Southwest to the Northeast and the width is about 30 km from the West to the East. It rises to a height of 1533 m.

Our anchorage was at Lebaleba where many boats had gathered for the welcoming ceremony again arranged by the rally. Tone and I walked into town and there to my surprise was a St Pius X school which of course is the same school Liam and I went to back in Sydney so that was quite a moment.

I remember this anchorage well for a couple of reasons. This was where Joe from Dream Catcher offered to help repair my VHF antenna. So I had arranged to go up the mast in the afternoon and put the repaired antenna back however I didn't count on a very boozy lunch / afternoon with Gordon, Liam, myself on Ascension - I cannot remember how much rum I consumed but I do know that I got up the mast in the afternoon somehow and made it back down.

The secong thing about this anchorage was Big Tone made the decision to leave the boat and fly back home as there was an airport at Lewoleba.

Gary and I then sailed on toward our next rally stop Riung. After leaving Lembata Island though we came across a couple of boats (Taipan being one Dave and Chris, LeBarca (Adam and Bronnie), anchored off this magnificent little sand spit which was so picturesque. Gary and I made a quick decision to stop and so I informed GWTW that we were stopping the night here. They were going to push on, but likewise, decided to return and anchor here as well.

Sundowners were quickly organised on the sandspit and Adam brought across his little gas stove and we tucked into some fresh squid whilst we all consumed the Bintang's and talked and solved all the problems of life we faced???
