We leave tomorrow for Indiana, but today we passed what feels like a much more significant step for us... we left our jobs. I can't speak for Cierra but it feels really weird to me to be unemployed again. Handing over my credentials to my boss and walking out the door with a small box filled with my personal stuff was a suprisingly quiet end to 2 years of my life.

Just about everything is packed up here. I'm typing this sitting on the floor with my keyboard on one of my feet so it can be angled up a little to reduce the strain on my back. My computer is on the floor as well, my desk having been packed up on Saturday.

Tomorrow we pack what's left, clean, then leave our house. The renters move in on Monday. It's strange to think of somebody else living here. We might be back in this place, or maybe we'll get a new home when we come back to Charlotte. Or maybe we won't be back. It's really impossible to know. All we do know is that come the 15 of September we're leaving for New Zealand... and we'll see what the world chooses to do with us after that.

One of Cierra's coworkers, Denise, made us a paper chain that represented the number of days left before departure.

We hung it from one of the chairs in our kitchen and over the last week we've been watching it dwindle to nothing. Today I ripped the last link up. And I guess we have broken many of the real bonds that keep us in our daily life here. But we'll always have good memories of our jobs from these years, and the people we worked with.

Well, it's after midnight and I've got a house to clean tomorrow before my flight. Next entry should be from the road. Thanks for tuning in!
