Where I stayed
We left Tortuguero the same way we arrived: by river in a boat. The trip to La Fortuna was actually a boat-jeep-boat trip. We started in a slim boat that navigated the jungle rivers in Tortuguero. We then got to a road and hopped into a mini-bus and continued towards Laguna de Arenal. Once we got to the Lake (after a 2 or 3 hour delay due to bus break down #1), we got into a bigger boat that brought us to the town. It was a really neat way to travel across a good portion of Costa Rica. Brilliant views, and our first volcano of the trip. Pretty cool. In addition, near the town itself, which sits right at the foot of the Arenal Volcano, is a beautiful waterfall that cascades down into a huge hole in the ground that has a great swimming hole at the bottom. Pictures tell the story.
