This weekend Kev and our principal Greg, and his wife are going to go see the annual F1 event in Shanghai. I've never been a big motorsports fan or anything but I have heard from a few colleagues in the past that it is a pretty cool event to go check out. Will post pictures once we get back.
Got back last night from Shanghai, and the F1 Chinese Grand Prix. It was actually a pretty cool event to go check out. I was surprisingly captivated for the entire duration of the race. The race had a pretty good finish with a UK driver, Hamilton, passing the leader (and winner of the first two races of the year, Vettel, from Germany) with just 5 laps to go to win the race. We also saw a couple of fender benders and a flying tire on the turn in front of our section. We sat in a section at the first set of turns after the starting straightaway. The turn had an S shape too it. The fans were quite patriotic, with plenty of fans there representing Spain, Brazil, Germany, Japan, and the UK. The other thing of note from the race: the noise. It was really quite amazing how loud those cars are. Earplugs were a must! You can get a sense of the noise in the videos. The weekend passes that we got gave us entry to all of the different phases of the race weekend. Friday was the practice day where the race teams get a chance to try out the track and make any adjustments that they need for their cars. This day is general admission so we were able to sit in the money seats. Saturday is qualifying day. The drivers race against the clock to determine where they will start in the grid to begin the grand prix on Sunday. Finally, Sunday is the F1 Chinese Grand Prix as well as some other Porsche race that they had going on there. Pretty good value for what we paid. I was entertained the entire time.

Also during the weekend, I went to Nanyang school to watch a basketball game involving several of my students from last year. It was good to see the boys, and Flora from Mudu. Pictures of the game are also included.
