I opted for a flight through Dallas so I could see my relatives on the way to Mexico. Unfortunately, this meant I only got 20 hours to catch up on almost 4 years.

We started with a leisurely cruise through Dallas, although Aunty Sue and Uncle Jim don't really do leisurely so we took in the sights speeding past in the car.;) The city was a lot more impressive than I thought it would be with sky scrappers sprawling left and right and a intersection of motorways that make the M5 look like a country dirt road. Aunty Sue's cooking, being the true draw, was fantastic. We ate steak with a few beers to chase it down into the early hours. We shared a bottle of Raymond in memory of my dad and it was great to hear some of Uncle Jim's stories (they were twins).

My Aunty and Uncle still have SO much energy so when we woke up early doors to make the most of a day in Dallas, they were up and ready to show us a good time. They made me feel like it was my 40th birthday the following week, not my 30th. ;) I think Vegas and Phoenix had taken it's toll and their bed and house was so comfortable. This made it difficult to get out of bed for breakfast.

On our day of departure we drove to the road where JFK was shot, then a great display of metallic bulls in a park symbolizing Texas and went for a tasty lunch. Uncle Jim gave an interesting and amusing background to Texas and the Texan people, the state who wants to separate from the rest of the states. It explained a lot of the comedy stereotypes.

I wish I could have stayed for longer, I think there was a lot more to see. The American Northams sure know how to show a good time, even in Texas. ;) I'm sure my sister's new miniture arrival will be enough to tempt them overseas for a visit soon so the English Northam's can repay even some of this generousity.
