Later in the afternoon the owner of the caravan park, Tamara Howard, returned from a funeral in Broome and our kids had fun playing with her kids. Angus played with Yatim and Syed, while Bella played with Naya and Millie.
Jarrod and I had a walk along the beach while the kids played. The tide was out and there were heaps of shells at the tidal zone
Bella and I found hermit crabs, one eating a sea snail and soldier crabs on the beach that are very funny. They have clear legs with blue backs and bury themselves in the sand if you get too close. There were literally hundreds of them.
I had lots of cups of tea and chats with Fee and Nikki while Jarrod did the same with Matt and Ian. It was very muggy to the point I felt I had to have a swim. We all went in together and it was very refreshing. The kids had a great time playing keepings off with the footy while we floated. It was quite shallow and very clear. Our swim was brought to an abrupt halt when a couple who had been paddling on the lagoon came in and said they thought they had seen a crocodile a bit further out. Ironically they were British backpackers that had been on our Whale Shark experience. Small world. There were aged notices on the toilet door saying that a croc had been sighted in the creek across from the lagoon, but we had been led to believe he rarely came across this side as the water was too clear. Better safe than sorry, we left the water and most of the group climbed over the rocks to see if he could be sighted. No one saw anything.
Unfortunately, I felt stickier than before the swim as the water is so salty. I took Bella for a shower to wash the salt off and felt a lot better.
Matt and Jarrod got a fire going while Fee and Nikki fed the kids nachos and they had marshmallows toasted with Ian's special extendable marshmallow fork. The kids were then sent to the Kay's van to watch Harry Potter while we sat around the fire and had jaffles cooked on the fire. We need to get one of those jaffle irons and marshmallow forks.
