We decided to make the trip out to the famous Pisac ruins and Sunday market. It was only a half hour minibus ride.  We shared a taxi to the main ruins entrance with a friendly Italian couple.  The entrance ticket set us back 70 soles (~$27).

It was late morning by the time we arrived and the sun's heat was intense.  We spent about three hours wandering through ancient stone structures built high on mountain tops.  The paths lined by high maze-like walls led us to to either dead ends or picturesque panoramas.  There were several sites to visit as the trail wound around and down, some more magnificent than others.

After walking down into town, we shared an amazing lunch that included causa rallenas (potato souffle with avocado, tomato and dressing) as an appetizer, quinoa stew with rice for the main and bread pudding with large raisins and succulent sauce for dessert.

In our first major adverse event since Vietnam, our minibus crashed on the way back to Cuzco.  It appeared that the driver had fallen asleep.  Sylvia was on the side that hit the rock wall.  She was covered in dust and had a small bump on her head.  We both had bits of glass in our pockets and backpacks and were a bit shaken but otherwise we were okay.

It could have been a lot worse.  A little girl and her mother were sleeping in the seat in front of Sylvia and they were both bloodied by broken glass.  The young lady behind Sylvia suffered a similar, if less severe, fate.

With the police on their way we quickly got in a shared taxi with the same Italian couple and an American woman.  After arriving safely in Cuzco's main square, we all hugged and thanked our lucky stars.
