The first leg went smoothly. We spent our layover eating fried chicken, sticky rice and steamed pork buns, exchanging our remaining Thai baht to New Zealand dollars and snapping a few photos of the gargantuan Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport.
Bangkok 22:00 - Jetstar 30 - Melbourne 10:00
For leg two, the longest of the four at nine hours, no free food or drinks were offered to us, but we were prepared with snacks and sleep aids. We awoke just after sunrise somewhere over central Australia and later landed uneventfully in Melbourne amid pleasant conditions, three time zones ahead.
Melbourne 11:50 - Qantas 131 - Auckland 17:35
After some minor confusion about requiring a booked flight out of New Zealand in order to gain entry we were permitted to board the plane
Auckland 19:20 - Air New Zealand 8229 - Tauranga 19:55
The smallest plane and the shortest flight was also the most turbulent. The rain continued as we walked across the tarmac in Tauranga and were greeted by our gracious hosts David and Sally Guest, brother and sister-in-law of Jason's good friend Mike back home.
