Matt and Sarah (couple we went to Adams Peak with) were going to stay at Sarah's friend, Roshans house. We decided to get the train with them to Colombo so we could go to Negombo to be closer to the airport. They ended up inviting us to go with them.
We got the train to Colombo - there were no seats so we had to stand in the open doorway. It was the most bumpiest train we've ever been on.
When we got to Colombo we got a bus to Ja Ela. The whole journey cost us rs370 for 3 hours travel. Roshan picked us up (after we had KFC!) and took us to one of his 3 houses that was obviously the party house! When we got there it was on an army base. The army trained across the road and there was a guard on the gate. Also the house had American, Sri Lankan and English plug sockets. None of the appliances had the right plugs! We had a sofa to sit on which was luxury. Roshan even bought us food to cook with. We had an oven but it didn't work as it had no plug and we didn't have the right fuse (We did try with a different fuse but blew it).
On the Sunday we went to the zoo but they had put the price up to rs2000 from rs1000 so we couldn't afford it. Instead we bought some DVDs to watch and got some food (from a supermarket) and went back to the house.
The funny thing about Sri Lankan roads is the lorries have 'hows my driving' stickers on the back. There was even an ambulance with one on. Also they like there beetles out there. We saw loads of them. But the roads are defiantly not as scary as India, apart from maybe the buses, who drive 50mph through towns and villages.
