Hi - we flew from Saigon to Hoi An ( Danang ) yesterday...very quaint village - our guide says " the real Vietnam ".....we are by the ocean and the river across the street, very pretty ! Mary and I are doing well - not as dangerous to cross the streets here - not as many motorscooters and few cars where we are. We will take a cycle ( not us pedalling - to be sure ! ) back to the hotel. We arrived in town this am by boat so we could see the fisherman - shrimp fishing. Toured the marketplace - mostly fish and vegetables very interesting. Saw the older women that have been chewing Beetle Nut all their lives..their teeth are black and their lips very red from chewing. Yesterday we CLIMBED Marble Mountain - many many steps ! This morning we woke up seeing a water Buffalo " raking " the beach. We were very sorry to leave our guide Binh in Saigon - very personable. Tinth , aour guide here not as good, has a Vietnamese Australian accent! We have had fun in the silk clothing shops...they make everyhing either overnight or in our case in hours - we will see how it turns out !
Hope my last e-mail from Saigon was sent - it was about The Mekong Delta River trip - the hotel e-mail was having trouble and it was very late for me to keep typing....
