The hotel across from my place was having a happening party last night. It was all I could hear as I tried to fall asleep. I did a good job of trying to block out the noise and eventually fell asleep. However, the bright sun woke me up around 5.45AM this morning. The ever to paper this window coverings did nothing to prevent lights from entering the room. I tried desperately to fall back asleep and I think I drifted in and out of sleep for another hour or so.
I found a school this morning that I am going to attend for a few days. It is pretty close to where I am saying, but i felt like i had walked through a cornfield maze to find it. The school, San Pedro Spanish School, is along a dirt path up from the lake. There were several twists and turn to find it and I was happy that I was able to find the main road afterwards. On my way back from class I ran in to a ton of people that still lived in the 60īs and were mumbling something to themselves. I slowly backed away and walked the other direction. I am sure they were just high.
Since I have decided to attend school this week, I needed to get some much needed dinero. And, so the hunt for an ATM that accepts Mastercard began. There is one bank in San Pedro, and it only accepts Visa for itsī ATM. I needed to go to Panajachel, a town across the lake. After class I took a very bumpy 30 minute boat ride across the lake and then a short walk into town to find an ATM. I finally found one that took my credit card, but the button to see the words in English didnt work...and I forgot the word for withdraw! So I found a gaurd nearby and tried to ask him. That didnīt work. Then a nice Guatemalan who spoke English helped me out and told me the word for withdraw. I will not forget that one again.
I walked through the town, had a pineapple fruit drink, bought a book and found internet. Iīm going to go back to San Pedro soon and read in the hammock outside my room. I think my new favorite passtime is sitting in a hammock. I wonder if i bring one back with me, if can put it in my office... maybe I would be more productive.

Howdy
That is one nice view for dinner! I hope it makes up for the many travails you seem to be enduring. Here's hoping your showers are hot, your days are cool, and your ATM's are Mastercardy.

rise and shine
Well, if it's not Howler monkies acting as your alarm clock I guess it's the rising sun. At least you have some beautiful scenery to wake up to. Enjoy!
