I have spent the past two days doing nothing but reading in the hammock and eatting real fruit! After I met up with Florie we spent two days relaxing and exploring the jungle. For the first time since I left home I feel that I am recharging. Unfortunetly, the insane humidity and heat seems to keep zapping my energy.
This afternoon we went for a canopy tour of the Jungle...the only problem was that it was during a massive rainfall. We got to walk on wooden bridges through the jungle at tree top level. However, the tour was massively overpriced, at $25. It was half the time it was suppose to be (30 minutes, instead of one hour). We did see monkies, various HUGE spiders, insects and birds. Our tour leader was very nice and explained the uses for the different tress by present day Mayan's. There was a interesting bug that looked like a very very thick brown branch and a bright green bug that was pretty cool looking
For the amount of money we paid (a pricey $60 a night, it ws tourist central...), one would expect fewer bugs than when I paid $7 a night. However, I go to use the bathroom at night and the mother of all spiders is crawling towards my flipflop. I promptly stomp on it and attempt to go back to sleep. But it was the most unbearable hot night thus far. And all I was able to do was stare at the dark ceiling. Lying in bed and sweating, that was my night. It was more comfortable with the fan on, but power was only available for a few hours each day. So I laid there and thought about all my itchy bug bites.
I have come to the conclusion that all beds in Guatemala have bugs. I am okay with that as long as the bugs don't get inside my sleep sack. But if the bed has bedbugs, all bets are off. I need to wash all of my stuff today, but I think i have picked up bed bugs. I have bites all over my body in tiny little rows, a tell tale sign of bed bugs. I have a row of 6 bites on my stomach, those bites better not get any lower.
While on the topic of bugs, let me describe my scorpin problems. I wake up this morning ready to take an ice cold shower (i hated the ice showers in Xela, but they are so nice in the jungle!), i start undressing and move my towel closer to the shower. I scorpin falls out! What if i didn't see it before I had jumped in the shower! It ran around the bathroon, with me screaming bloody murder. I toss some clothes on and open the door and Florie comes to see what the problem it. We wanted to kill it so that it didn' make its way to our bags and surprise up later, but i don't think we were able to successfully kill it. I think we scared it because it only curled up in a ball. As long as it doesn't come after me or get in my things, then I am okay.
