The Appalachian forest is the second most diverse deciduous forest in the World, only second in species diversity to the deciduous forest in China found at approximately the same Latitude. A deciduous forest has strong seasonal variation because of the loss of leaves in the winter time.
Our ride into the mountains was full of power outages and thunderstorms
As we drove the thunderstorms could be seen reflecting off the side of the mountains around us and wind whipped across the road. It was quite a ride through the dark mountain roads. When we finally arrived at our first stop, it was a relief to find it not raining.
Strangely the camp ground was full. In the morning we learned that many of the near by residence came to camp out because there power was out. We manage to find a spot only because someone reserved a spot and didn't show up. Blessings.
