Something that made me smile and laugh out loud today:

I was on a zemidjan riding through the streets in Cotonou when a very distinguished looking, white goat passed me. He had a very nice goatee and two long horns that curled back like little buns on the side of his head. He was riding a zemidjan, too, nestled between his guardian and the driver, but he did not look uncomfortable. He looked as though it was just something he did everyday in addition to grazing and hopping around hillsides.

I actually began that little vignette back in Cotonou but never got a chance to finish a sentence before I had to leave the computer for one reason or another. I was in Cotonou because I had my first "major" African illness,Ecoli, but not to worry, it really wasn't so awful. I caught it early, so apart from a couple of days of fever and weakness, I have felt fine. Ah, the joys of Cipro. The plus side is that I got to spend a few nights in the luxurious comfort of the med unit. I soaked in hot baths, had clothes laundered in washing machines (!!!), ate delicious food, slept in air conditioned rooms, and vegged out in front of the tv watching movies. Nice. A little slice of Americana for a change.

Now, I am on my way back to N'Dali. I stopped in Parakou on the way to check mail and do some shopping at the marche before returning home to my little kitten, who is probably freaking out wondering where I am.

Speaking of mail, a personal message to Lois Gene: You have been my most faithful writer! Thank you so much! I promise to write another letter soon. I did send one. Did you get it?

School starts on Monday, though I have heard that the first week is mostly about cleaning the classrooms and such. I will probably be down in Parakou sometime soon to buy supplies for my scholarship girls. I promise a long letter and a tale about a scorpion bite (not me, my neighbor). Stay tuned...
