Trip Start Apr 11, 2005
54Trip End ??? ??, 2006
We've got the plane tickets re-routed and are missing out India for the time being, only for the time being mind!
We arrived in Frankfurt to a rude awakening, it was cold -2c to be precise and having being used to the high 20's flip flops weren't going to fit the bill. Fortunately knowing that there was a 7hr gain and a 11.5hr plane ride we had booked into the 5* hotel at the airport to delouse ourselves. There were a few raised eyebrows from the business sorts when we turned up all disheveled with backpacks on the front and back but we didn't care, we were going to have our last few nights in comfort without having to get up to turn the hot water on or share a bathroom.
We slept like logs and awoke to a glorious winters morning with frost on the trees and a crisp clear blue sky. We wanted to see the city but the first thing on the agenda, buy some winter clothes.
To start off with Frankfurt was great, the old mixed with the new, an odd turret here and there, we could walk around the streets and not be targeted for a sales pitch but after a while it dawned on me that in a way we were already home. The people were the same and we blended in (so much so that three separate people asked us for directions, in German mind and our German is a bit non existent now) it was a bit of a shame really to know that day to day routines will soon be creeping back in, no longer will we have to do chicken impressions or mooing like a cow to describe the sort of food we want. There will be no more protesting that a price is too high and spending the next 10mins quibbling over 20c. No more 12hr bus rides without air con and dust blowing in any orifice exposed to it, no more will we be told that our destination is 1hr away and then in 3hrs time still be told it is 1hr away, before long it will all seem a distant memory, but at least not for today.
So braving the cold we were off to explore our last country before heading home.
