Trip Start Apr 11, 2005
54Trip End ??? ??, 2006
Well what fun we have been having in New York City. We finally got over the state of the hotel and decided to concentrate on the trip intsead.
There is so much to do in NY that i don't know what to tell you about. So I think I will concentrate on my most enjoyable part, that being Ellis Island. It is only through good fortune that Ellis Isalnd is open to the public as nearly a decade ago it was in ruins.
It took around eight years to restore the building to its former glory and has benefited from imigrants that passed through donating artifacts that now make up the exibition
It actually suprised me that the building was left to decay so much seeming how Americans are so proud of their past etc.
Anyway one of the quotes that stood out for me and I think sums up what people both past and present find about America is as follows by an Italian man.
" I came to America because I heard the streets were paved with Gold. When I got here I learnt three things.
1) The streets weren't paved with Gold.
2) The streets weren't Paved at all.
3) I was expected to pave them!!!!"
It made me chuckle and think what hopes the people must have had as they endured the long wait in line to see if they would be accepted into the country or sent back to their home land.
Enjoy some of the pictures.
