Getting going
Entry 2 of 4 | show all | print this entry |
Rise and shine, Up supprisingly early after finishing night shifts the day before. But feeling fresh and raring to go. Kit is packed, got everything I need (or so I think), safely strapped to the bike. Lets give chris a call. "Please leave a mesage the person........." Shit he's not up yet. How the fuck can't he be up yet? Oh well I thought I'll nip round and wake him, i'm sure he won't mind.
Filled the bike up and Chris has finally stired, a quick cig and he's ready for off. We plan to ride to Arras today covering around 250miles.
The trip down to Dover went excpetionaly well, the torture that was the M25 we survived and both bikes are intact. We scored a earlier ferry which was welcomed and the crossing went without a hitch. That is apart from Chris having to mess with everything he touches. The bikes are strapped down by the ferry crew, however Chris in his wisdom decided it wasn't tight enough so proceeded to rachet on a few more pulls, a loud snap and the webbing had come loose, fine I thought giving him a hand to try and get it on again, alas to no avail and we had to look a pair of tools calling the lad back to fix it. Bikes safely bolted down were off for a coffee.
We navigated our way to the B&B without a problem and did it in good time. We were welcomed by an English couple that cater specifically for bikers. A beer and a chat and we were ready to hit the town. We found a cafe and had a 1664, which Chris could order in French, impressive! a few of those later and food was on our minds, we walked what must have been at least 6 laps of the town looking for somewhere that was open but everything apart form the kebab shop and a pizza takeway were shut, even the supermarket had now shut, We opted for the pizza shop and got a couple of beef sandwhiches and returned to our B&B disshartened, was this what France was to be like everything shut including the cafes by 8pm? Our hosts were on the mark and offered us more beer and food, the beer we accepted but were no longer hungry. We hit the hay by 9:45 hoping tomorrow would be a more productive day.
