The minute we started walking around La Paz we had a junkie offering us any drug known to man, we walked a little further to find massive piles of garbage dumped in the middle of the road and dogs and people fighting for the goods that lie beneath these smelly mounds. We then saw a bunch of kids stumbling down the street with bags of glue, sniffing away. It was heart breaking.
Our hostel was plonked right in the middle of the witches markets. It was crazy! They sell everything from llama fetus´to dead frogs
We finally found a hostel with empty beds. We checked in once looking around and realising everything was in Hebrew. We discovered we were in an Isrealie hostel. It was hilarious because everyone constantly spoke to me in Hebrew. even funnier because someone in Cuzco thought I was Isrealian as well.
We also went to the coca museum. It was really interesting. The things you find out about coca and cocaine would turn you off drinking coca-cola or doing cocaine.
We also bumped into our mate Daz, who we first met in Lima and then again in Cuzco. What a small world. So we went back to his hostel and had a few drinks and hit the town with him and his mates.
We desperately wanted to get inside the jail and do some volunteer work with the prisoners children (who also live inside). Sadly the prisoners were on strike and all of the wives and children were kicked outside. So we were not allowed in. We did however walk past and make friends with the police. It was pretty crazy. The prisoners are not in cells, but rather all in one big area. I have since been looking for the book ´marching powder´ but someone told me it has been banned here.
