Huancayo- Home away from home for the next month

Our bus trip to Huancayo was unreal. I expected it to be amazing but there are no words to describe how amazing it was. The scenery through the Andes was spectacular...one minute there were snow covered mountains, you look away for a minute and there are streams, waterfalls and lush green mountains. Every so often you can see a little village with only a couple of worn houses. Or maybe a man and his child walking around with their pet donkeys.
We got to Huancayo and the streets were full of people, there are no street lights but there are little fires in the street. People have their portable pots and pans and they are cooking up a storm in the street. We have been warned of this food because our little sensitive bellys just could not handle the germs. The Huancayo people (yes that's right Huancas, said wankas) love to beep their horns. So there is a constant beep, beeep as the background noise. The buses are wicked they are just combie vans, where people stand out the door yelling out in Spanish 'get in! If we are are not going where you are going, come for the ride anyway'.
Our house is much nicer than I ever would have expected. We have comfy beds with loads of cozy blankets. There are about 6 volunteers in total and we all eat together, its like a big family. Really nice to all sit at the dinner table, chatting away. Something I havn't been able to do in a over a year. The only things that suck are altitude sickness (we are 3260m above sea level), not having warm showers and not being able to put your toilet paper in the toilet, eeewww! WORTH IT!
