Beginning the day early, with a lovely breakfast served in our room, made our outlook good, despite the threatening weather outside. Once ready we walked along the flatter streets of the Montmartre and enjoyed the fresh food markets held in the centre of the road. After buying some fruit and admiring the lovely seafood and other products we both got a crepe and then decided to make our way towards the Eiffel tower (and other touristy places on the long walk there).
We walked through the red light district called Pigalle, and saw the Moulin Rouge. We made our way to the Parc de Monceau which was just beautiful - the gardens were amazing and we enjoyed a stroll through the park hand in hand! Back out onto the street, we headed towards the Arc de Triomphe in the middle of the huge roundabout at Pl Charles de Gaulle. After enjoying the statues and carvings we made a beeline to the river Seine and the Eiffel Tower
The Palais de Chaillot opposite the Eiffel Tower is beautiful and dominates the view. Once at the Eiffel Tower, the huge lines (they went fowever) and the signs saying the tower was already overcrowded, turned us off going up the tower. Very unfortunate, but being a saturday I guess it was inevitable - Trent got to make the final decision since he had never been up there, but he was keen to keep moving. We walked through the park stopping to admire the many dogs out on their saturday walk, and the gardens and statues. We saw a lovely GSP, two Pointers and some lovely crossbreds.
The next stop was the Ecole Militaire which was lovely, and then we decided to get the train back to the area of our hotel to get some fresh food and go to the hotel for a late lunch and to rest our feet from the kilometers of walking we had done. We had originally planned to head out in the evening to do a tour on bicycles, but with the terrible weather, we decided we would just head out to enjoy Paris at night, and grab some desert and coffee at a restaurant somewhere along the way. So we are about to catch a train into the more touristy part of Paris to see the city at night, hopefully avoiding the majority of the large crowds (its very busy being the weekend and the gay parade is going through the city today).
Tomorrow we go to Amsterdam with Busabout - we are excited about going to Holland (its one of my favourite countries), we have some friends to catch up with, and lots of clogs and cheese to be seen & eaten!
We are a little freaked out about our impending trip to the Uk since hearing of the failed bombing attempts near Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square. Not that we didn't think these things were a possibility.
