Well well well, we have arrived in the city of romance!! After a long day on the bus we left Munich at 8am and headed over the border to Austria to the town of St Johann in Tirol. We've found an amazing place we would love to visit again - in winter it is a wonderland of snow fields and in the warmer months it offers us adventurous ones ski-diving, tobogganing, mountain biking, plenty of walking tracks and the most breath taking scenery. We only had a short stop before continuing towards the Italian border.
The bus trip, though indeed long, was full of amazing views, the Dolomite mountain ranges - with its snowcapped peaks, and typical Alpine flora - we were in a constant "ooh" or "aah" vocalising what we saw. The cross to Italy was no problem at all, and it was hard to concentrate on the movie or my book with the plethora of things to see. We found at our first stop at a petrol station/restaurant we were still in German mode, finding it hard to remember 'grazie' instead of 'danke'. Trent and I kept practicing our more familiar terms to get out of the german language mindset.
Close to 7pm we arrived outside Venice at the Busabout drop off point. With the campsite (I use the word campsite loosely, it is like a little town with cabins everywhere, a supermarket, restaurant, pools, spas etc) offering a shuttle bus to the main bus/train/waterbus/watertaxi station in Venice leaving at 8pm, we decided to have a quick meal consisting of lasagna and ravioli at the campsite restaurant (which was GREAT & cheap!) before going to our hotel. Soon we were on the bus & then transfered to the waterbus. After a few stops we hopped off and easily found our B&B after a short walk.
The Ponte Chiodo (our B&B) is just gorgeous - thanks for the recommendation Danielo & Traci :) The garden in the courtyard is so tranquil and our room is great, opening onto the canal, with stone flooring and timbers that Trent and I just love. The kitchen is tiled just as Trent and I had been trying to imagine our own future kitchen since admiring different marbles in Vienna - its great to see the ideas we had in the flesh (or stone for that matter) and to both agree on how wonderful it looks.
Well we are off to bed soon - so much exploring to do after breakfast tomorrow. We plan to go in a gondola to explore the city and spend some time on foot in the amazing Venice.
