. Living out of a suitcase has its limits. Thankfully the feasting opportunities were equally numerous and we felt justified to eat our hearts out. The food was... well, how can one put it? Did you know DeNiro went to Italy to gain the 60 extra pounds required to play Jake La Motta in Raging Bull? He knew exactly where to go and how to have a raging good time doing it too! We followed suit as best we could in such a sort time span. As expected, everything including the tiramisu was first-rate. Never say no to that! We strolled the streets to our hearts' content and felt completely charmed. But alas, the spell did end and our Provencal villa awaited us, as did the magical Mediterranean.
We made our way down to and through Genoa, hometown of Christopher Columbus and turned westward. Once we hit the coast, and could see the sea, we became giddy with anticipation. The palm trees and yacht menageries did not help to bestill our beating hearts. We meant to make a bee line to the villa but the force of La Mer was too strong. We gave in at Alassio, a fabulous little seaside town known for its sandy beaches. We ran to the water and splashed like there was no tomorrow. Su didn't have any swimwear but who cares? It's Italia! Dive in as is! The waves made for brilliant bodysurfing and the sun smiled down on us as we reveled in the sea. Unforgettable fun! But alas, the villa did call us, and so we dried off, had another marvelous lunch and headed back to France
. The drive along the water was breathtaking and the thrills just kept coming as we came upon the magic that is Monte Carlo, Nice and Cannes. These sights are really too much for one day so we promised to return another day. We kept to the road and got to our new home at about 9pm.
Now, gentle reader, after all those delights you may not expect what's coming next. We certainly didn't, but then that is what makes an adventure isn't it? Until the next episode, just ponder on things that go bump in the night...that lurk in the corners...things with greasy teeth... with grimy claws... innumerable legs...and omnivorous impulses...
As September knocked on our door, we packed up the wagon and headed into the mountains - literally. Meet le Col du Frejus; a 13km tunnel cutting through one mountain and joining two countries. The light at the end of that tunnel shines upon that wonderful land we know as Italia. How easy it is to fall in love with this country! We had no exact plan and so we let high spirits take over and soon found ourselves lost in Milan. Not a bad town to wander in really. Eye candy of every type awaits you at every turn. Beautiful buildings, beautifully dressed windows, beautiful dressed people. We drove around in circles for some time looking for a hotel that as it turns out no longer exists. But who cares? It's Italia! We found another right in the heart of the city, parked the car, and set out to consume this captivating conurbation. As one can imagine, the fashions waiting to be had were infinite and the temptation was excruciating but we succeeded in leaving with only 2 extra pairs of shoes
