Hong Kong is such an amazing place! Susie enjoyed going back to where she was born - we even visited the apartment where she lived (although couldn't go inside). The views are amazing, both when crossing the sea on the Star Ferry and also on the Peak where you can see all the lights of Hong Kong. To get to the peak we went up a cable car, but on another occasion we went up escalators! (They have escalators up hill!!! - its apparently the longest in the world...

Technology there is second to none. The internet cafe's were amazing, the toilets flushed automatically...you get the idea. However in some of the outer areas away from the city a few 'holes in the ground' - makes an interesting experience for susie!!!

On one day we went across on the ferry to the island of Lantau where theree is the big budda View from Star Ferry

. It was good to see but we all felt a bit disappointed that there were new developments being built around the monastries which (to us) spoilt it. The walk we did from there was excellent though, 2 hours through basically wilderness back to the train station home. We even passed some monks singing and there were no other tourists about - off the beaten track!

The food was lovely. I loved it and kept having sweet and sour (unimaginative I know!) Susie and John (Susies dad who came out to meet us for those who dont already know) enjoyed the food too and actually experimented by trying new food! The best experience was our dim sum afternoon - a hall where you pick the food you want off the trolley (such as wontons, spring rolls, prawns...all very nice!

Unfortunatley Susie wasn't so well for about 4 days, with some type of stomach pains. She went to the hospital on the peak (lovely views by the way!) and was basically told there was nothing wrong with her! She started to feel better when we stayed in the YMCA - and yes I did do the dance and sing as I went in, much to Susies embarresment. We had a great view from our window and got to see the light show from the comfort of our own room.

There were also some excellent markets - great chinese chopstick sets, and chess boards really cheap, it was just difficult to bring things back. Oh well, we will try in Bangkok.

All in all an excellent, extremely safe place which we would definately go to again. Photos to follow....
