A year ago I never would have guessed that I would ever go to Fiji, especially for a "long weekend", but when the opportunity came up with a Living Social coupon I just couldn't say no to a good deal ;)
The group that I went with was 5 friends from Bond that all go to school in St. Louis.  Our trip started early Thursday morning at 4 am and we took the train to the Brisbane airport.  From there within a quick 3 hour flight we were in Fiji where we were welcomed by singing men and sea shell necklaces as we got off the plane!
When we got to Fiji it was dark and rainy so we couldn't see much of anything.  We took a 2 hour bus ride from the Nadi airport to the Coral Coast where our resort was.  After we got to the Resort we got settled into our "Bure" (a little bungalow) and got dinner.  After dinner we were like little kids on Christmas Eve and went to bed so that morning would come and we could explore and see everything.
When we woke up the next morning we explored and learned that we were in the legit jungle! The water was so clear and turquoise it looked unreal.  The resort had free snorkeling and kayaking so we took full advantage of that as well as sand volleyball and my personal favorite hermit crab races :)
We stayed at the resort because it had everything that we needed and it was safer.  The one day that we left we went on "The Jewel of Fiji Day Tour", where we got to go river canoeing, bamboo rafting, swimming in a waterfall and experience a Fijian village.  It was an amazing day and I enjoyed all of it.  I especially liked the Fijian village where we took part in a traditional Kava ceremony and had a Fijian lunch (chicken cooked underground).  We got to see the villages preschool and the little munchkins sang to us it was so adorable.  After the village is when we went to the waterfall it was unreal, we were able to swim in the waterfall but it was so strong that it was practically impossible to swim into it, it was like swimming in a resistance pool.  After a full day we were all very tired and went back to the resort and relaxed.
The rest of our trip we just enjoyed everything at the resort and got used to "Fiji Time" where everything runs slower and if something is supposed to be at 6 it usually will not happen until 6:30-7.  We enjoyed alot of fresh fish and drank Fiji water from the bottle because you cannot drink the tap water (not that you would want to, it comes out of the faucet brownish).
On Sunday night we watched the Rugby World Cup Final between France and New Zealand.  It was so crazy how into it everyone was getting.  All of the Fijians were rooting for France to win even though they didn't like France they just didn't want New Zealand to win... but they did for the first time in 24 years and they have been in the finals for about the last 10 years!!!
The day we left we left Fiji at 8:30 am and we were back in Brisbane by 9:30 am because of the time change! It was an absolutly amazing trip in a very unique culture and environment!
