Well I know it was almost a week ago, but Thanksgiving turned out to be ok. Met a former Hatteras local named Stewart. Kicked it with him and Justin all night…throwing darts and drinking beers. Brian made like $300 playing poker. Ha-ha I need a hobby that pays as good and I would be set. Plan on meeting back up with Stewart in Panama City for a NOFX concert on December 13th.
We left Bocas a day later than originally planned, due to crazy amounts of rain, so after yet another night in the "tundra" of our air-conditioned room, we were on our way. Overslept by an hour (damn watch alarm) but we still managed to make the 8 o'clock water taxi. The weather was perfect and the water was sheet glass. As we cruised towards Almirante I realized how skilled one must be to safely navigate these waters
It was relatively easy to find a cab, and even easier for him to get us to agree that he would take us all the way to Paso Canoas ( La Frontera). The cab was a spacious king-cab Mitsubishi truck of some kind, painted yellow of course. The cost was $105, but worth every penny. No cramped busitos, no stopping 100 times, no David, and better yet…we got to DJ our own music.
The sun was shining and we were able to get a bunch of good pictures of the mountain pass; our driver stopped several times for us to get a few still shots. I still am unsure what mountain range we passed and the maximum height we reached…I’ll try to research that later. After paying another $1 bullshit exit-tax, we were back in Costa riding in a very familiar red taxi-van which was heading here…Dominical. Chalk-up another $110 to travel expenses.
Pulled-in at the Sun Dancer around 4 p.m. (must be record time). Flatness and wind have plagued us since we arrived. Maybe surf an hour or so a day. Don’t think I’ve ever been so bored and antsy, and to make matters worse, my traveling companions don’t want to do ANYTHING but complain about the surf, heat, return home, etc. But I have done my fair share of bitching for sure.
Just need a few days of solid swell and everything will return to the way it should be. After all, this is a “surf” trip, and there’s only 13 days left.
